En Caelora

En Caelora was built initially as a fortress to deal with pirates in the Summer Sea, and quickly grew into a community of mages sharing secrets among each other. Raekmore Academy was born under the eaves of En Caelora, and the town is very proud of its history. Though there are more than a few pirates who walk its streets these days, it remains a staunch guardian against further incursions from beyond the sea. According to those who live here, En Caelora encompasses the whole of Farryn's Isle, and the only land that properly holds that name is the smaller islet to the south. For most on the mainland, however, En Caelora refers to the fortress only. The city being built initially as a fortress has left it riddled with secret passages and escape tunnels. There are those who find themselves traversing corridors that are between the walls of other buildings, and extensive libraries both hidden and not are found around every corner. With the Academy, En Caelora boasts a large number of travelers and a larger number of magic users, which colors the way they look at people. Locals can be quite unfriendly to outsiders and even to students of the Raekmore Academy, as their nature encourages them to speak more with each other.

Malgion Wellspring

A marvelous remnant of some Biotamancer past, who cultivated the earth around a natural oasis in Farryn’s Isle until all manner of important medical herbs and flowers blossomed, Raekmore Academy has protected the oasis for many years. The Malgion Wellspring is more of a well-tended garden, a dedicated community working hard to keep various flowers flourishing and, of course, harvesting when necessary for the continued good of the plant. The oasis the garden has formed around remains a beautiful wellspring of steaming blue water. While the surface is often clear enough one can see the bottom toward its edges, the center is dark and foreboding, and swimming is not recommended on account of the many vines and tendril plants that grow in the water, threatening to tangle up even the strongest swimmers and keep them beneath the surface. Hydromancers among En Caelora’s mages have speculated that the wellspring has a deep tunnel leading into the earth, where it pulls its water from, and there have been a few studies done on the effects of the water due to myths of its powerful healing properties. They quickly lost interest, as old folktales of the Malgion Wellspring’s strange powers were thoroughly disproved by their tests, though certain small pockets of communities on Farryn’s Isle still insist the legends are true.

Pirate's Bay

With the fortress so near, surely no pirate would dare to create a hideaway on Farryn’s Isle. It’s widely agreed that the name initially came about because of the number of pirate ships sunken out in the Bay, though it didn’t stay that way for long as the conflict between pirates and En Caelora evolved over generations. These days, things are tense but not unfriendly, and Pirate’s Bay is host to a number of quiet bars and gambling dens that even the upstanding citizens of Farryn’s Isle will occasionally patron. This does not include students of Raekmore Academy, who will be severely punished if caught in Pirate’s Bay by their teachers, and who generally must hide from the locals who are more than happy to report them if they offer the slightest offense. The secluded area around the shores of the Bay is tucked just high enough among the cliffs that high tides don’t generally endanger anyone, though travelers may endure wet paws on more than just the docks. As all good pirate dens inevitably have, rumors of ancient treasures and mysterious maps are abound, and it is not unreasonable to hear rumors of parties forming to go after a particular artifact, or falling apart over distribution of loot. There are so many rumors that it becomes truly difficult to sift fact from fiction, unless one knows exactly who to lend an ear.
