Jun 27th, 04:28 PM Quote #1 Vines hung like green curtains from pots on either side of the Khaled estate's west-wing balcony, their tendrils framing the iron railing and draping over the kitchen entryway below. The vines were dotted with vivid magenta trumpet-shaped flowers and the sweltering arid air was filled with their sweet scent. Abi stood between the two pots, propped against the iron-wrought railing. He was deep into his bottle already, his eyes ablaze with that familiar drunken fire as he watched the kitchen staff unload boxes of foodstuffs from a cart up the path. Behind him, Aydan lay sprawled on a brightly printed pillow beneath a shaded fabric awning, which mercifully blocked the worst of the desert sun. Beside him, an ornate hookah loaded with sweet-flavored tobacco cast colorful reflections onto the painted plaster of the balcony. Spread out on the cushion before him was half-filled sheet music, his paws tapping absently against the pillow as he mulled over his latest composition. Occasionally, he hummed to himself, working through a particularly complex melody. Then came that soft snicker from Abi, the one that always preceded trouble. Aydan’s focus snapped, his eyes pulling away from the parchment just in time to watch as his twin leaned so far out over the balcony that Aydan gasped. Abi extended a paw, wiggled his fingers, and a shower of sparks rained down on the unsuspecting staff below. A feminine squeal rose up, followed by the frantic patting of singed fur. Aydan had long believed that fire mages couldn’t be nice people; it just wasn’t in their nature. His brother was no exception. "Don’t let mother catch you tormenting the help," he said, his tone flat, eyes already drifting back to his music. He didn’t care much about Abi's antics, but the staff talked.
