Deep in the forests that surround Yuwen Temple, where the mist hung thick and heavy and the rain seemed to fall perpetually, Echo moved with a grace that belied her surroundings. Her paws sunk silently into the mossy earth, sodden and lush. Raindrops danced on the canopy above, their rhythm a constant patter against the broad leaves and twisted branches. This stretch of wilderness was a stark contrast to the bustling markets and the serene high-perched temple of the Sun Kingdom. Here, Echo was not merely a visitor but an intrinsic part of the ecosystem, as vital as the towering trees and secretive creatures that lurked in the underbrush. Her powers sang with the pulse of life and death - humming quietly in the air, invisible but palpable. The forest responded to her presence: moss and leaves tangled within her fur, and new shoots of green sprouted eagerly in her wake only to wither as she passed. Birds, normally hushed by the rain, chirped softly as she neared. Echo scanned the underbrush for what she needed. Today, she sought the rare marshbell flowers, known for their healing properties when distilled into poultices. These flowers hid in the densest parts of the forest, where sunlight rarely breached the canopy. Her fur brushed against the ferns as she glided through the undergrowth, and they leaned towards her touch as if in greeting. The deeper she ventured, the more the forest seemed to open up before her, the path clarifying as though the earth itself was eager to guide her to her quarry. The air chilled as she penetrated further into the woods, mixing the earthy petrichor with a hint of something sweeter - the elusive marshbell perhaps. Echo pushed forward, parting a dense thicket with a brush of her paws, aided by a subtle burst of her magic that made leaves discolor and droop, the branches brittle, breaking away with satisfying snaps. There, nestled in a damp, shadowy nook, were the delicate blue blooms of the marshbell. Their soft petals glistening with raindrops, pristine and beautiful. Carefully, Echo collected the blooms, placing them gently in a leather pouch, cautious not to crush the delicate petals. Though she had found a good number, it wasn’t enough for her needs; the search would continue. Moving onward, the rain began to relent, and shards of sunlight pierced through the canopy, creating warm pools of light on the forest floor. Echo paused in one of these patches, letting the rare warmth seep into her fur, inhaling deeply the mixed scents of wet earth and burgeoning life. She would find no marshbells in this light, but here, in the solitude of her forest, Echo felt tranquil; there was no need to rush. (This post was last modified: Jun 20th, 12:01 PM by Echo.)
